After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, Amy Bahrt worked as the Design Director of a high-end children’s wear firm for over 20 yrs. As an award winning designer, she launched Amy Bahrt Designs, a hand knit line of sweaters, accessories and home furnishings for children. Her unconventional use of color, texture, and dimension create a perfect environment for a child to enjoy, especially with her signature animal motifs. Amy's work has been featured in upscale stores such as Barneys New York, Bergdorf's, and Takashimaya, as well as specialty stores in New York and California.
Dozens of her designs are available to knitters through Knit Simple, Vogue Knitting, Family Circle Easy Knitting, as well as yarn companies such as Cascade Yarns, and Ravelry. She has been published in numerous books including Cascade Yarns Quick Knits Series, Vogue Knitting on the Go Series, Family Circle Easy Baby Knits, Sixth and Spring Publications, Knit Local, and Creature Comforts - a book exclusively of her designs. As an avid marathoner, there is plenty of time for creative thinking. She lives in a cozy apartment in New York City, engulfed in yarn and knitting needles.
